About us

About Us :

Little Souls Rescue & Sanctuary

we are a non-profit CIO charity based in the uk, in Nottinghamshire offering a lifelong safe haven for guinea pigs and rabbits who need us the most. We do not rehome our guinea pigs or rabbits—once they arrive at Little Souls, they become part of our forever sanctuary family.

Little Souls in the making:

It took 4 long years in the making—a journey filled with hard work, heartache, and hope, tears . And endless sleepless nights ,Becoming a CIO charity was a dream come true, built from love, determination, and sheer dedication. Every step has been self-funded, every enclosure built with care, and every life welcomed with open arms.

Many of the animals who come to us have experienced neglect, trauma, or abandonment. Some arrive from very dark places , often in heartbreaking conditions. Sadly, we can rarely confirm exact birthdates or breeds—what we can promise is that they will be loved and cared for, unconditionally, for the rest of their lives.

We regularly care for many guinea pigs and rabbits, each with unique needs. Many come to us pregnant, underweight, with untreated illnesses, injuries, or simply in need of love and safety. From the moment they arrive:

Pregnant mums are given calm, secure spaces and special attention through birth and beyond.

All animals receive vet care, medication, and gentle rehabilitation as needed.

Skin issues are treated with medicated baths, and long-haired residents are groomed, bathed, and trimmed for comfort.

Regular nail trimming, health checks, and coat care are all part of our commitment.

Some of our little souls have never known love or gentle human touch. Many arrive frightened or shut down. But in our sanctuary, they receive kindness, patience, and all the time they need to learn that they are safe now. Slowly, they begin to trust, and that transformation is one of the most beautiful parts of our work.

We’re always happy to offer free advice to anyone needing guidance with guinea pig or rabbit care. Whether you’re new or experienced, we believe in supporting compassionate care beyond our gates.

At Little Souls we provide a peaceful, loving, and forever home for many guinea pigs and rabbits who need lifetime care.

🌿 Spacious, Enriched Living

Our animals enjoy space, safety and comfort:

🐹 Our female guinea pig enclosure is a huge 20ft by 30ft — giving them room to run, play, and enjoy the fresh air, with hiding spots, tunnels, and enrichment to keep them happy and active, warm, and safe all year round

🐹 Our male guinea pigs have their own safe and roomy enclosures to prevent stress and ensure harmony.

🐰 Our rescued rabbits enjoy a specially built warren where they can explore, dig, stretch and snooze in peace — just as bunnies should.

🩺 The Health and Wellbeing of Our Guinea Pigs and Rabbits Always Comes First

All our rescued rabbits are fully vaccinated and neutered to keep them healthy and happy

Our priority is always the happiness and wellbeing of every little soul in our care
not numbers, but quality of life.

🥕 Can You Help With Food Donations?

We are always in need of fresh vegetables and fruit for our beloved small animals.

🌱 Lettuce, spinach, spring greens, cucumber, peppers, kale, parsley
🍏 Apples, pears, berries (for occasional treats)
🌿 Fresh herbs like coriander and mint etc

We also welcome donations of:

🏠 Quality hutches, runs, tunnels or toys
🌾 Hay, straw, wood shavings
🩺 Contributions towards vet bills (vaccinations, health checks, dental care)
🧹 Cleaning supplies to keep enclosures spotless and safe

For those who require extra support, ongoing treatment, or long-term medical care, we offer a permanent placement, ensuring they receive the safety, comfort, and attention they deserve for life.

We are passionate about promoting responsible pet ownership, the importance of neutering, improving animal welfare, and preventing cruelty — making a lasting, positive difference to the lives of animals in our community and beyond

Supporting Stray and Feral Cats

Many people sadly see stray or feral cats as a nuisance. But at Little Souls, we see lost souls who deserve a second chance.

We are actively working to rescue, support, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, stray, and unwanted cats . We also offer long-term care and ongoing support for cats who might otherwise be ignored, forgotten, or put to sleep.

We proudly help support and manage cat colonies, making sure the cats are neutered, healthy, and cared for—giving them safety, dignity, and a better life.

We also help find safe relocation if needed, and work hard to support vulnerable cats, including males, mums-to-be, and mums with kittens—bringing them off the streets and into warmth, care, and safety

Kindness to Colonies

Some colonies, like the Conlys, have lived together for years. We believe it’s wrong to break these bonds unless absolutely necessary. Instead, we work to support and stabilise them—allowing the cats to live happier, healthier lives in familiar surroundings.

However, in cases where safety or health is at risk, we gently relocate cats to safer environments where they can thrive. We also help cats to heal and find loving forever homes when it’s in their best interest.

Every cat we work with is seen by the wonderful vets we work with, ensuring they receive the medical attention and care they need.

🐾 Colony Welfare Matters

It’s very important to understand that true colony welfare takes more than just neutering a few cats. While doing TNR for a small number can prevent those individuals from reproducing, it won’t stop the cycle of kittens unless the entire colony is neutered.

Careful planning is essential. It’s also important to watch for newcomers joining the colony—so they can be neutered too before contributing to more litters.

The earlier the support starts, the better. That’s why it's always best when people reach out while a colony is still small. Together, we can stop the suffering before it starts.

A large number of our piggies were rescued from so very dark places where their wellbeing was shockingly neglected. Many arrive:

Suffering from mites, fungal infections, or abscesses

Pregnant from repeated back-to-back breeding

Rabbits in Need :

Our rabbits often come from neglectful or unsafe environments. Some require:

Time to heal from trauma

What’s included:

Soiled straw, hay, and wood shavings
Natural droppings from healthy rabbits and guinea pigs
Mixed in with unused hay that can be great for composting

This waste is chemical-free, non-toxic, and full of organic matter – ideal for: 🌿 Composting
🌼 Garden mulch or soil conditioner
🌱 Allotments and flower beds
🌳 Permaculture projects

Rabbit and guinea pig droppings are considered cold manure, meaning they won’t burn plants and can be applied directly to compost heaps or left to break down naturally in your soil. They’re rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium – perfect for giving gardens a natural boost.

Cat Care Advice for the Public on Neutering

At Little Souls Rescue and Sanctuary, we believe that giving every cat the best start in life begins with the right care, love, and information. Whether you’re a new cat owner or simply want to make sure you’re doing everything you can for your feline friend, this page will guide you with simple, trusted advice.

Neutering Advice

We strongly recommend that all cats are neutered from four months of age. This may surprise some people, as kittens still seem so small — but the truth is they can become pregnant as early as four months old.

For male kittens, neutering is usually advised when they reach a healthy weight of 2kg, to ensure the procedure is safe and successful.

Neutering has many benefits:
✔️ Prevents unwanted litters
✔️ Reduces the risk of certain health problems
✔️ Helps stop unwanted behaviours like spraying, roaming, and fighting
✔️ Plays a vital part in reducing the number of stray and homeless cats
